Arduino pin types

Post by SealionSteve »

Al was kind enough to post a question from me about sharing pins on an Arduino (in the main blog for 13th March). I had several useful replies, so thanks to everyone involved.

Lou mentioned the large number on non-PWM pins on the board I am using (a Mega). This made me think of a very basic question:

"Can stepper motors be fed their control signals via the digital pins rather than PWM pins?"

I had been assuming that you had to use PWM pins, which are limited in number. Mainly because every example I had found on the web was using 4 PWM pins to drive the stepper. The tutorial document which came with my Elegoo starter kit also mentioned PWM pins for its stepper motor example.

Yes, you can use digital pins to drive a stepper motor.
