Lubricate Steam Locomotive

I have several Steam Locomotive and want to know what is the best type (Dry/graphite or liquid/ultra lite oil?) lubricate.

Also, how often?

Hi

Light oil, preferably plastic/nylon compatible as many gears and chassis parts are made from this.

I use Dapol's "Dapoil", but I don't think it's readily available in the US. Bachmann do a light oil "E-Z lube" which seems similar. Looks expensive but one bottle should last for years, as you only need a tiny amount and not very often at all. When I worked in a model shop (years ago), I reckon that 90% or thereabouts of the "repairs" we had were caused by over-oiling and just needed stripping down and cleaning the gunk off 🙂

As a retired small motor & motorcycle (Triumph, Yamaha, BMW) mechanic, Yes many people think that if little is good, alot is.....
