I picked the tip of using shredded pan scourer for vegetation from one of your emails.
Thought you might like to see the results. It can be shaped into hedges, bushes and trees.
I just put it in place and spray with PVA 20% mix with water.
I’m really pleased with it.

Here are 4 pictures of my weathered locos. I used humbrol weathering powders, smoke grey, rust and a little white ash. It is best to spray the locos with a matt clear varnish first so the powders adhere better. It’s a good idea to mask any glazing, I used artists liquid rubber which can be easily removed when it’s finished.
I also did the wheels, remember to rotate them so you don,t get un-weathered bits showing where the rods are.
I did not do the chassis because I was afraid it might affect the pick up wipers also I don’t think it’s noticable.

Brilliant. There’s certainly quite a lot of excellent work in this video. I do have one or two humble observations/suggestions.
I’ve noticed that the majority of the inland lakes and waterways that I have seen in real life are considerably more green or muddy brown than the bright blue color that you use to represent water on your layout. Living where I do, near the ocean, one can easily see the colors of the essentially clear bodies of water change progressively from green to blue as the water gets farther out into the deeper depths of the Pacific. I have been told that this effect is owing to the undergrowth of vegetation near the shoreline making the water appear green. Only as it progresses deeper does the water begin to reflect the blue of the sky.
My only other observation (not criticism mind you) is that the barges you use on your layout appear not be able to negotiate the extremely tight turns the waterways seem to make on your layout. These are just small things. I do want to thank and congratulate you for all the excellent work and efforts that you always manage to show us on your really entertaining and informative videos.
Always good to see what other people are doing and am in awe of Dave and his skills. Must spend so many hours each day in the loft!
That pannier tank sure looks dirty, maybe you should take further by chalking the number on the coal bunker. With the other locos for 1960s perhaps remove name plates.

Really enjoy you postings,especially the brilliant Dave. He is an inspiration and I have learnt so much from his wonderful videos.
Can any of your respondents give me some advice? I was given the present of a Hornby motorised turntable and feel obliged to incorporate it my layout on which I am working and it sticks out like a ‘sore thumb’. I would appreciate any photos etc. of how to incorporate it to look the part.

Layouts I’ve done has always been about the trains. Country side, dirt, grass, stone, a small town, two buildings, two or three houses. Three to four main lines of track.
