Seems like you lot are really raising your game.
After Kaustav’s yesterday, Ken sent this in. Just amazing.
No text. No explanation. Nothing. But still worth posting.
So a big thank you to Ken – and Ken, if you want to drop us a line and tell us about your layout, we’d love to hear!
Latest ‘ebay cheat sheet’ is here everyone.
Best
Al
Thats what I call a layout , good one Ken
amazing
Terrific layout, could you please tell me what material you used for the long over head track. Thanks
That is an awesome layout
Modeled after Milwaukee Road (and Soo Line/CP Rail successors) Wonder if a layout of this magnitude belongs to Walthers?
Raising the bar again, they keep getting better
Beautiful layout! Really enjoyed seeing the shot of the entire layout from the other side of the room after viewing all the teaser shots. Any chance we could see the underlying benchwork? We can learn a lot from you.
Thanks for sharing.
John
Quite something Ken! What is notable to me is the depiction of much more freight across ‘the pond’ compared to what we see in the southern part of the UK. Now for a challenge:
With DCC, we can run multiple engines, control switches and signals but what we usually do not see in layout videos are moving vehicles on the scenic roadways or perhaps tractors ploughing fields. Surely it can be done?
Hey Ken, I noticed a cubs sign. Are you in the area of chicago or milwaukee? I would love to see this layout.
OK -= I’m running to the basement now to tear everything down and start over….
OHHHHHHH MYYYYYYYYYY!!! That is amaaaaaaaazing!!!
THANK YOU!!!! That is an awesome layout. So many attractions!! Thanks again!!
realy good layout enjoyed it very mutch i like it
I really enjoyed seeing your excellent work Ken … well done. I only have one observation, other than what I have already said. I personally believe that the viewer might be even more impressed with the layout if the trains were to be run at about half the speed as it would feel more prototypical. But this is a positive comment.
VERY WELL MADE and good to watch and marvel at the workmanship and design.thanks, let`s see more
A “video” paints a thousand words …. ?
Mind boggling!
Another outstanding layout!! Who the the heck are these talented folks, and where are they? They deserve at least, some praise for their accomplishments! How big is the layout? How long for completion? It just looks spectacular! Excellent job.
Well done Ken, a really great layout. Thanks for sharing it.
fantastic layout
Great layout – what size is it?
It took my breathe away! widened my eyes! gave me goosebumps! It is wonderful! send some more:more:more!
We are what we do … Ken you do well!
Thanks for sharing
Thank you Al
Definitely a wonderful layout Ken – congratulations! The town scene is just beautiful, and I love the lighting and sound effects – awesome!
@Craig Watherbee – You know what, I think these people are ‘Model Railroading Mutants!’ 😛 You need to contact ‘Professor Al’ to track them down using his ‘Cerebro’ thingy! 🙂
awesome layout, i wish I had the space they have,
Well done for giving me a few more tips.
Rand
What an impressive Layout. A ? for you Ken.
Are you using DCC?
A great layout but trains going way too fast and combined with what appeared to be a low fps of the video I found it hard to watch. I’d love to see it again with more realistic speed.
Absolutely fantastic
Thanks Al for posting my layout and giving all of us hobbyist the opportunity to share our work with others. Thanks to all who took the time to comment on it. The layout is 8x16x12. There are 262 lights, 32 buildings, 6 industries, and a double main line. I started working on this October 2010 when I retired from the Soo Line RR where I worked as a locomotive engineer for 42 years.
More videos to come!
Ken
There was no plan made for my layout. It was off the cuff as I went along.
Peter – the overhead rail is 1/2 in plywood with 1×4 supports
really nice, I see many ideas I want to incorperate in my first layout. limited footprint here, so two levels will be the only way to go.
AMAZING!!!! Cannot wait to see more video of this layout. There is too much to take in on this first look. Ken, please can you give us a track diagram too?
ALRIGHT, Ken!
I have to admit that my jaw dropped wide open while watching the video.
I would fairly be pleased, if I could do a quarter as well as you guys do.
Had one comment to offer, but others already mentioned about the fast speed.
Just got to say, “Wow!”
Someday I want to be as talented as the people displaying their layouts here. They just keep getting better.
Well done Ken: Thanks for the end of your video showing the entire layout. By the way what scale did you model.
VERY NICE LAYOUT. WELL THOUGHTOUT
great to view, there was i wondering how big it was, as one does and got the wonderful overview shot. Now i wonder how you get the locos round such tight curves as prepare to take one of mine up to get a larger radius.
Just want to shrink and dive in there and walk around…….excellent job!!!!!
Delightful! One of the best I’ve viewed. Though living in the UK, HO American railroads are my main interest. More details please.
The only minor ‘down’ was that they were running too fast, but that could have been in order to create a compact video.
What a brilliant layout!!!
What I need is for Ken to hold a raffle which I win & the prize is for one of the groups’ so – talented-and -patient members to come & assemble my collection of n scale board track and bits into one of these magnificent layouts.
Though I guess there’s a beginners guide/advice layout on site. I’m just so impressed and moved by the skill & patience it’s so daunting. moorlandman
WOW! Great layout.
Ken,
Is there a track plan available for the layout.
Very well done.
Ken, I love your background of large buildings. Where can I purchase a background like this?
Ken,
While the layout is very impressive, what amazes me is the amount of real estate you were able to claim for it in the room. How much longer before the need to expand takes over:)
loved every minute of it….. need more Seymour… lol
That is the best model railway I have ever seen. There are some amazing builders out there. I wonder how much time & money has gone into it.
Good on you.
Keep them coming Al thay give us lesser modelers inspiration to do our best.
Thanks
Barry.
I would love to see it for real it looks wonderful
Wow….Great….its this kind of layout that does one of two things…..Either it is so depressingly good it makes you want to give up altogether….or restore enthusiasm to continue and try to emulate. It did the latter for me!!!
Very impressive.
Absolutely fantastic layout. The magnificent detail helps create the illusion of real life. Such realism of a model layout can only come from someone with first hand knowledge of the real thing. I hope I can muster the patience to create a working model at least half as good as Ken. Very professional.
GREAT JOB
Great job! I wish someone would model the Lionel or 3-rail O gauge in a great layout as well.
This almost needs no words. Absolutely remarkable craftsmanship.
Being a noob here, this is both encouraging and discouraging. What scale is it?
what a beautiful layout. really beautiful…..enjoyed watching video. thanks
VERY VERY NICE! I am sure the Lite BEER is also a requirement for daily operation!
I too loved this layout. I have yet to start my first. An idea of mine is to create a layout where a lot of track will be hidden and therefore the trains only appear relatively occasionally. This I think will allow high speed passenger trains to look more realistic whilst being able to run freight at a slower speed. What do all you experienced modellers think.
WONDERFUL layout, Ken!! I slowed it down to half-speed and watched it eight times! Saving this one! THANKS!!
VA Tumbleweed
that was swEEt!!!
ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL KEN!
WOW !! WOW !! WOW !! Super fine layout Ken .. Great detailing. Paul
Fabulous layout! I would never want to leave that room.
what a Absolutely remarkable lay out I hopping mine will just as good well done Ken
