I’d like to share my highly effective method for clamping track during gluing.

While this may seem a little flippant, it is actually quite effective in settling track while PVA glue dries.

The added attraction is that the content of the cans can be consumed on completion of the task.

At age 72 with limited space and color printing capability, I was able to relive a part of my youth when a 4′ x 8′ sheet of 3/4″ plywood was acres and acres.

So with computer images, balsa wood, a color printer, a couple of car kits, and purchased landscaping and a few spots of glue, this is what I came up with.

“It’s been 20 yrs in the making, just never had the “gumption” to do it. I always thought that because of the seasons we have that the maintenance would be a real pain. Now that I’m retired what else do I have to do but put the effort in. Really, my adult son’s doings, I think they want to keep me busy !

I’ve shared what you have sent me on all the projects under way and that got them psyched. So my wife and I went away for a brief vacation and the boys went to work.( I’m still trying to figure out what they did that I haven’t found out about ! lol lol ) I will send you progress pictures and videos as we go. Awaiting for some what will be nice additions, Bridges and more rolling stock. Waiting till it all gets balanced and secured before we break out the real expensive toys.

Really a big work in progress every time I speak with the boys there always either a slight change here, siding there, new track coming for extension areas, I never know. This I do know it will be a triple bridge extending over the pond stream, a tunnel which was planned years ago when doing the pond, a small rail yard and long runs with limited switches although there are a few manual/ powered. So I guess you can call it an “Over under 8″. Hope to have track laid in beds this weekend ? Lot of rain is to be coming for the next three days as well as a holiday so I’m not sure why that does to the schedule.

“Easy way to soot engines and cars,use a hurricane light. Turn it up till you have black coming off of the flame, hold the item into the black till you get the desired effect. Spray with a sealer to hold effect.

“Hi Al wasn’t happy with the steam tubes the way they sat so I cut the firewall back further and will replace the tubes with better ones.The front balkhead will fit back perfectly in place and will be left open to show the tubes for steam.maybe hang from a hinge or something.And the inside will be rusty brown as well as the rest of the locomotive.

Will dismantle parts and lay around and maybe sink the loco on a track on a slant in mud to make believe it is sinking and about to fall over to one side.Im also building a stil that will be sitting next to the engine with moonshiners.anyways you get the picture of a rusted abandoned locomotive sunk into the ground after years.
