Dave’s Christmas video

“I like to use cardboard or thin sheets of balsa wood to make my buildings with. I cut out the windows so they can light up, using a small 12 volt lights. For the windows I like to use transparent overhead film, ( you can get at Office Max). Then I paint the film with a crafters (Glow-in-the-Dark) paint to give it a yellowish tent. This also allows the windows to glow after turning the lights out. You can get this paint at Walmart or most hobby stores. After the paint dries I cut the film to size and when I paint the inside of my building I will apply the window film while the paint is still wet.

I hope this adds to some fun to some of the readers.

Thanks for all your help,

Mark”

Hi Dave – the reason Santa didn’t bring you that loco you always wanted is, because you didn’t spell his name correctly. His name is CLAUS, like mine, and Clause is his lesser cousin who specialises in Gardening Tools…..

  22. Rod Mackay says:

Ah, thank you Dave. Three reds on the back of that brake van by the way, you only show a white to the rear on the sidelight adjacent to the main line when your train is stopped to be overtaken in a goods loop.
You could have given your little plastic blokes some overtime with a ballast train or two, always some relaying or bridge jobs going on over Chrimbo, ideal for the siggies, double time and a day in lieu and only a handful of freights to work. Only such shift I got was a Boxing Day night 2014, 19-07, on a grade 5, that was Christmas paid for.
I used to love working afternoons on Christmas Eve, festive spirit, the service winding down early, some excitingly fast and unusual empty stock workings back to the depot, and home in time for a beer and some good telly. Made the mistake once of putting down the carpet offcuts over the lever frame before the last ECS had gone by, he must have been hitting 70-odd, the draught up the slots from the locking room blew them all up in the air and filled the box with a year’s-worth of dust and powdered underlay, took me another half-hour just to sweep it all up tidy for my oppo to come in on the 27th!
    Merry Christmas all!
    Rod

  23. Tom says:

I cant believe how much we are all blessed with the contributions of the creative mind of Dangerous Dave. Just wondering if he has rewarded himself with a trip to the “miniature museum” in Hamburg.

  24. Robert Tennison says:

Thanks Al, you inspire us first time modelers. You make the whole year MERRY and not just at Christmas. I just built our retirement home and converted the attic into a room for a Lionel layout. I follow your website to guide me thru the construction. My hope is to one day have a layout like my hero, Dangerous Dave.
I have failing eyesight and 5 grandkids, so I decided to go with O scale, -big mistake! I was going to ask Santa for a new Lionel engine, but afraid he would have to sell his sled and reindeers to afford it.
Thanks again and Merry Christmas from The middle of Texas.

  28. Don George says:

Your technical ability is great both in building your railroad and your video skills.
I like to share with my granddaughter the skills represented on this site. However I decided not to show her this. Here it is Christmas a celebration of the birth of Jesus and the main focus of the video was a naked neon woman stripping. Very disapointing and I thought unnecessary.

  45. Dave you make so much effort with these films they are always entertaining and good to have some less serious stuff going on too! The music in the night club is a bit cheesy though! You need some Lady GaGa haha Great effort Merry Christmas

I would just like to Say Thank you All very Much for Your Kind Comments , and of course the support you have all given over 2016 …just a couple of answers to some of the questions ….the layout is 8ft. x 30ft. with 2 levels …….I started this hobby after I retired at 64 years of age …never used a computer before and my last model railway was at 9 years old …with one of the old Hornby 00 sets …so no excuses for any saying no experience and too old to start …you can see my results after 8 years …not the best and not exact on detail as I know very little about Railways ..but shows that we are never too old to start and can achieve some reasonable results with all the things that are available now for this Hobby …Again I would like To wish You All a Very Merry CHRISTMAS and a Great Modelling New Year …and a Big Thanks To AL for this site with all the useful information that we can all share ….Dangerous Dave and Deb
