Kaustav has been back in touch with another excellent ‘how-to’ on HO scale railroad signs.
I do love how he does his detailing – looks fantastic.
“Hi Al,
Hope you and your family are doing well. All your updates are now extremely useful for everyone who subscribe to your blog. It definitely helps me maintain my sanity in this crazy time for sure!
Sorry, I couldn’t email in last few months – it was a wild start to the decade as I am sure it is for many people. I am glad to see that the blog is up and running and the hiccup at the end of last year is a thing of history for your website.
I kept myself busy doing little projects rather than big ones, for various factors, one of which is that I am trying to figure out how to build authentic models /dioramas /layouts of Indian Railways.
Here is my first attempt – a little 22 X 15 inch diorama for a friend who designs custom locos and rolling stock that can be 3D printed.
Most of the things are scratchbuilt, and I intend to share how I achieved some great results with very easy techniques.
Here is the first of the video series – making the unique HO scale railroad signs.
Will send more photos and videos soon.
Take care and stay safe everyone.
Cheers!
Kaustav”

A huge thank you to Kaustav for sharing his HO scale railroad signs – I do love his stuff. Who can forget his barge weathering ‘how to’?
That’s all for today folks.
Please do keep ’em coming.
And if today is the day you get stop dreaming and start doing, the Beginner’s Guide is here.
Best
Al

PPS More HO scale layouts here if that’s your thing.
nice dioramas you have built there Kaustav…Dangerous Dave
Love the road signs, got to have some of those on my layout!
Thank you Kaustav, that was most enlightening.
I am very impressed with your skills, not only in modeling, but also in producing fine film with expert voice overs. You are a very talented man and again, I thank you for sharing.
I look forward to your next film and have already started photographing road signs.
Wow!
Kaustav….you are a man of great patience and talent. I truly love you attention to detail. Thanks for sharing and stay well. Cheers! NJ Mark
Kaustav
We havent heard from you in a while and I for one are thrilled to see anything you create. When I look at a Kaustav creation, I cant tell if its real or yours. Thanks for the video.
An admirer, 77 yrs old and with Gorilla fingers- I am so envious of your talents.
Be safe
George from NY
Thank you everyone for the kind words!
@Dangerous Dave – Thanks! Yeah, I think dioramas, micros and mudular layouts are going to be my life. My attention span is that of a dog chasing cars beside a highway, so there is no way I can handle a ‘proper’ model railroad, I’ll sure be run over by it!
@Peter and Gary – Would love to see how your sign turns out. Send a note out to Al whenever you manage to build them.
@NJ Mark – Thank you and I’m glad that you’re enjoying these little creations. Question – If devil is in the details, would you call me a devil worshipper? 😀
@George – Thank you and good to be back! I truly wish there was a way to send you some skills, but since I can’t do that, I’ll tell you what… I will make you a model. Something special and perhaps even personal that you always wanted been made but never had a chance. Find my email on my YouTube channel and send me a note if you’re interested. 🙂 Most importantly, you stay safe out there, stories of NY is very scary.
Cheers!

Kaustav,
Thanks for that very informative instructional video. You are an excellent modeler.
Stay well.

Kaustav – your diorama is brilliant and your methods and videos are truly professional! I must admit, though, you gave me a big laugh, sitting here trying to imagine if I could replicate the computer process you went through to make your signs. Not in a million years! Thanks for sharing!
neat detail to protect centenary. Never saw this before
Kaustav….great sense of humor too! Cheers! NJ Mark
Kaustav
What a wonderful response and it shows your generosity. But us old geezers have to learn and attack modelling with a grim determination- look at it five times, drop it twenty, do it over twice, take five times longer with trembling hands, but in the end it is ours. Maybe not a Kaustav quality but it is ours.
Bless you
George from NY
@Jack – Thank you! I am glad that you enjoyed it.
@Tony – Just give it a try, you’ll be surprised how easy it really is! It’s all free so other than a little bit of time there is no real investment. 🙂 Cheers!
@Bob – yeah, it’s a very India centric thing and very common here. That height bar sort of is a signature of Indian level crossing.
@NJ – Thanks! Without humour, the world is as good as dead, isn’t it. 🙂
@George – I did not mean any disrespect, nor did I mean to undermine your creations and I sincerely apologize if it sounded that way. My father is 2 years older to you. He loves to write – poems, short stories, even novels. But since he was young he suffered from a narvous desease that prevented him from writing very well but that didn’t stop him from holding high responsibilities in pre-computer era banking industry. But as he grew older, my mother became his type writer – he would dictate, she would write. exactly 2 years ago while visiting my place (we live in different cities), he suffered a stroke and lost his left arm and the same year December he lost his wife. Every other distress aside, if something bothered him the most was that he couldn’t simply express his emotions which was overwhelming at the time, in his art form as it came to him. Even though it is his creation, there is no one to just write it down for him. Yes, his children and grand children were there but after a while they had to go to their own lives and essentially, his creative mind is now mute. The reason for me to tell all this is that sometimes we all could use a little helping hand, and that doesn’t take anything away from who we are. 🙂 Cheers!
For US signs, use the signs on one of the following Caltrans sign charts:
https://dot.ca.gov/programs/traffic-operations/sign-charts
I use them for traffic reports all the time. Just size to fit your layout. You probably will not have to do the line corrections that Kaustav does.
@Jim – that is a great resource! I still have my fair share of american Model railroad projects in pipeline, and this will be a SUPER resource.
Cheers!

Great work! A wonderful and informative video. You have a great talent. Well done.
Thinking about your response about your dad and not having anyway to express his ideas without the use of his arm or his wife now. Have you thought about a digital voice recorder for him? Then as he has inspiration all he would have to do is press record and say what is on his mind. Then he can listen to them whenever he wants. Just a thought that might help him out.
Keep up the good work and stay safe
