“Hello Alistair
So that your commenters know people do listen to their suggestions I am sending you new pictures of my river.
You published my river pictures, and “How To” about a month ago. I raised the river level and made it more green. Your subscribers made these suggestions.
They also wanted me to add kayakers, and picnickers. This is N scale these things are so small they do not work in this scene. Thank you to everyone who helped me with your suggestions.
Happy Railroading,
Thomas”
Big thanks to Thomas.
It also a good example of why I’ve introduced the ‘golden key’ search page.
Here’s Thomas’ first post. But as you know, I don’t link much.
The golden key search page means you could have found Thomas’ previous post – and all the other river ‘how to’s.
In fact you, you could search on anything at all.
But today is the last day it’s on offer. Please don’t dawdle if it takes your fancy.
And just so there’s no room for error, it’s the last day today for the Golden Key search page! Can’t be more clearer than that…
Anyhow, here’s a quick vid showing what it does:
That’s all this time. Please do keep ’em coming.
Latest ebay cheat sheet is here.
Best
Al
Thomas has done a great job with the water effect there, and yes the Golden Key is a great idea , we can now check back on any information that has been shown in the past …
Thomas, your river is the best I ever see. Congratulations,
Paco.
Thomas, green is good just ask the Irish. Your river is fantastic!
The Golden Key is a great idea thanks Al
regards,
Tom
Thomas never say never lol.you have n scale people.I bet I could come out with away to make kayake.problem is I don’t have any N scale people to figure out the size.I will give it a go and see what I come out with and let you know.great build.
Okay Thomas.I checked it out by the time Al allowed the moderation. If you have a N scale person.cut the legs to the hip off even.If you need to move arms on the n scale person alittle.heat it with a candle or lighter slowly and not close.heat up the persons arms alittle at a time and slowly bend them outwards.let cool and do it again till your happy with it.tomuch heat will melt the person so go slowly.Take a solid piece of wood.N scale be a sliver sort of.Sand it till it looks like a Kayak or use a craft knife and carve it.It can be done.Question what scale would N be.1:32 or something
Thomas, the river is fantastic, really artistic, well done.
Ron.
Hi Thomas, I commented on your first river post about how good it was. Now I have to say its even better! You even have a splash effect on the rocks which is quite something. Have I spotted a sleeping hippotamus in the “3 tracks” photo at left centre!! Or is it just a rock!
Hi Kim:
N scale is 1:160. So if a Kayak is 160″(13’4″) long then it would be 1″ long in N scale. N scale is exactly 5 times smaller than 1:32.
Thomas…your water really looks good, it’s a raging torrent…I don’t think I’d be brave enough to go kayaking in that, but I could see a team of white water rafts as in extreme sports perhaps trying to navigate that river. Wow what a rush.
Hi Thomas I did a fast test build of a N scale Kayak.Looks ruff alittle but with fine sanding and a tuneup will look great.
Great river scene!!! Love the reddish rock along the banks. and the effects of rapids are fantastic. Ok, how did you do it?
Great river. I actually thought it was more than good enough in the first post. It looks even better now.
Thanks Al for offering the Golden Key. I have already used it a number of times to look up previous posts. Well worth the price.
Cheers
Cameron
great river scene Thomas, you might try people sitting near the river having a picnic
IT LOOKS LIKE I AM FLYING IN AIR LOOKING DOWN AT A REAL RIVER.
I absolutely LOVE your river, Thomas, and so appreciate your sharing your technique with us. I can’t wait to show my husband. We are just beginning, so what a blessing you are to us!
Al, thanks so much for the Golden Key! It’s great. Such a great help.

Outstanding water! Extremely realistic, I got splashed just looking at it!

Did you kick me off your email train site? Are you taking your trains and going home?
Your water modeling is great. It really looks like it is running.
Very nice effect. If you ever send more photos it would be nice to see at least one or two taken from river level so as to get the point of view of an N scale person.
Very nice my friend.
Love the meandering rapids, wish I had that talent, great job!
Thomas: G-r-e-a-t job, very realistic.
Al: Great idea, this will benefit everyone. God, I love this place!
Very nice, looks great.
I just wanted to say, you did an awesome job with the water and rocks!! It is one of the best I have seen in a long time!! Keep up the good work, I am a little jealous. Lol…..
