Model train layout floating shelf

Ernie’s been in touch with his model train layout floating shelf layout:

“Hi Alastair

As a retired Electrician I prefer to hard wire switches and lights.

But recently bought a system called light genie, excellent stuff, and I cannot wait to incorporate it onto my lay out.

However a couple of pics of my shelf layout.

I used IKEA floating shelf and covered with Aldis green mat cut up as well as some stuff from Model Tech Studios as background and loads etc. as a useful tip, the cobbled road from Lemax is great stuff but needs a lot of patience to get it to lay flat.

Thanks again

Ernie”

“I liked Larry’s shed so I thought I would show what I did with this paper cutout, along with a few other paper cutout projects I did.

Looks good. I’m into British GWR 00 scale and despite that I do like some of these American and Continental style layouts. Some of this equipment that is used on them I haven’t seen in the UK. But like Ernie I too am a retired Electrical Engineer who much prefers the hard wired switching. Well done, nice layout.

Nice one Ernie, put on a couple of pics showing the longer shots, and a track plan. Could be inspirational to someone with limited space.

I liked Ernies close up photos. The detail is great. Maybe he could take a step back so we could see more of it?

It looks like he has O and HO scale. Are they both on the same layout?

  8. Peter Braun says:

Hi Ernie , what 3 rail system are You running . It looks like HO but is not Trix Express , that is what I have . Out here in the Canadian prairie it is impossible to find something to match . Please comment .

Can your print out buildings be scaled up for O-27 gauge layouts?

WOW!!…what a great looking shelf layout. Since my previous layout was destroyed by water , I’ve been working on a shelf layout. I derive pleasure from being a little creative and running the train back and forth but cannot achieve the level of sophistication in model building displayed in Ernie’s work. But it sure is great to see it. Thanks
