I have 2 usable layouts, both HO gauge – consisting German/Swiss/Austrian.
Both are digital sound with ESU Loksound decoders, run on Lenz controllers.
I currently purchase the blank decoders and blow the sound on using a Lok-Programmer and sound files from the vast collection from ESU.
The layouts have been constructed over the last couple of years.
The track is Peko flexi and ballesteded.
The bridge is home made using plastic sections.
The snow scene area looks good, but causes problems loco running.
The fir trees are home made.

Great Layout! I especially like the roundabout layout with the coaling tower, water tower and engine maintenance houses all placed in a logical manner. Thanks for some great ideas I hope to incorporate in my s scale layout.

Great job. Thanks for describing what you have. What a hobby! Taking a 1930’s model and putting in a 2020 decoder, sound, and control to today’s standards- awesome.

Must be a Peter thing. I also have 2 layouts (one HO and one N scale) themed on Austria/Germany/Switzerland. And I recognise many of the loco’s as I have the same ones! In fact I had to look twice to make sure it wasn’t mine!

Great Looking Layout,, Nice Eye for Details and Logically placed trackage. In my opinion, that turntable looks like a Marklin made in Germany. The Coaling Tower looks like a Vollmer model. Could it be serviced by a conveyor belt unit by hopper cars off to the side? I like the abandoned spur line going into the tunnel portal that was bricked off.. with the path from the hillside blocked off by a fence as well as the spur tack itself blocked by a locked gate. The snow scene looks real enough.. could put some goats on the hillside. Like the scratch built bridge spanning the river with the crystal clear water… great detail with the gravel river bed. Think the police with their rubber boat will have to wait for high water to launch! For most of us, cramped space dictates positioning of the yards, fiddle tracks, engine service areas.. If I had to change a few things. I would have the Water Tower ahead of the Turntable, and the Coaling Tower, ahead using a lead in track, with a spur next to it for coal loading so any steam loco could be serviced with an Ash Pit, Coal Tower and Water tower ahead of the Turntable / Engine House or Round House. You could place a smaller Water Tower, Sand Tower, and small Coal Bunker next to the Engine House / Round- house for aux. service.. Or just have a Water Pipe next to the building for water for waiting engines being worked on. You could have a separate track for Diesel Service, with a Diesel Oil Tank, service rack with stairs for mechanics to work on the units, with lights and a tool/parts shed near by. Even if you had a separate area on the layout for Diesel and electric service keeping the Steam Service Area separate. Overall Give this one a AAA Rating. Keep up the Good Work.. From Mike in N.H. Love the turntable and display of engines. As a fellow modeler of the Swiss landscape I appreciate the problems caused by HO scale snow. I hope to someday have the engine collection you have! Greatly appreciated seeing your layout pictures.
