5×10 O scale – Will’s progress

Will’s been back in touch with his 5×10 O scale layout.

You may remember him from this post.

Well, he’s sent in some progress pics.

He’s not a man of many words, but it’s still good to see:

“Here’s my progress on 5’x10’ O Scale

“Hi Al

Arnie from the west coast of Florida across the pond.

My wife was so happy that I shared the room that I got to expand my layout from the first one I sent in.

It had to many curves and enclosed is the new layout double the size since I added another table.

This one has the long run straight run and is a folded double loop with sidings a bypass and an 2% incline as denoted in the layout. I am using Bachmann tracks for those that are interested in N scale.

I am attaching a pdf of the layout for your fans.

Still working on hiding the wires and making buildings for it.

Will update soon

Arnie”

(You can see more of Arnie’s stuff in the Hall of fame.

And now on to Bob:

“Hi Al… I have been following for a while.. great layouts and great ideas… Thank you…

I have recently started a layout after several years of hiatus. Attached are two photos.

As you can see, it’s very early in the whole experiment.

My layout is similar to Bob’s HO… mine depicts Savannah’s River Street for a start

All structures are scratch built and are all in need of more details I’m working on it … will send more pics as things move on !!

I do like showing the layouts in the early stages because that’s what this hobby is all about – making a start.

That’s all for today folks. A big thanks to Will for sharing his 5×10 O scale layout – and of course the same to Arnie.

Please do keep ’em coming.

And don’t forget, the Beginner’s Guide is here if you want to stop dreaming and start doing.

Best

Al

Now that’s an O scale layout. Amazing how much track can fit on even 5×10? Then of coarse Plasticville structures; always a bit small for O but all that was at hand in the 50’s least wise. Didn’t know they were still available as that, never changed. The Plasticville hangar lmao; had planes landing and taking off from streets on mine.

    Regards, Rich

Will, it appears the table is against two walls. Can you roll table away on the 10 ft side? How will you get to a spot next to the wall for fixes or a derailment?. I kept a 1 foot space btwn wall and 10 ft side of my table (5×10), to slide around the back. 5 ft is too far to reach to that back side, even on a lower table and my long arms!
I like your design and the areas for humanity to develop. Have fun fellow 3 railer.

  7. Wes Henry says:

For Arnie’s layout, SW-45 needs to be a left turnout and moved two track segments up the line. More usable siding, fewer “S” curves, and more prototypical.

  8. robert dale tiemann says:

very nice layouts, keep us up on your progress.

  9. Rob McCrain says:

Will, Your O-scale layout looks fun. That’s a nice image in the low light. It all looks exciting.
Arnie, the new loop looks like you’re in for some fun time adding the landscapes and details. I can’t wait to see what you’re up to in pictures and video.
Send in more pictures when you get further along.
    Rob
