The task was how to integrate my love of model railways and the grand kids desire to race their model cars around a race track.
Main board is 8’x4’ then extended across window into goods yard and made a loop back to main side.

Question Tony. I used to live in Stockport, when I saw your layout pics with the viaduct and the straight section of road race track, does it look like Wellington Road in the early morning when the grandkids race? It is a very good layout, so realistic, more realistic if an old Ford Fiesta like mine was on the race track…..
I have an question for you how does the racing track compare scale size with that of the ho scale model railway is there that much of a size difference

I’ve sometimes thought the old railway line through Monte Carlo would make an interesting layout, with working Formula One circuit!
(Or maybe a model of the Liongotto yards at Turin with cars going round the roof of the FIAT factory!)

I reply to some of the questions:
Yes I put the viaduct in as a symbol of Stockport and the War Memorial (Cenotaph) on the hill represents Werneth Low. (to those who know the Stockport area!)
Scale wise, the Micro Cars are technically 1-64, but do not look out of place as on a track, racing cars are smaller than conventional road traffic!
The race track does not cross the railway lines, so runs independently of the two trains I can run at the same time. All old style I’m afraid – not got into digital yet!

Q. Tony–just wondering which you built first: the car track or the train? Either way looks pretty cool!
A. I laid the railway track first as all at ground level, then put viaduct in place and set racing track in place and sculptured the hills using expanding foam and cut/shape to fit around the track.
Neat idea. Have one question. What is the make of the coal tipple as shown in the picture? I have one that was an afterthought and cannot use because of the distance required between the tracks. The one pictured only uses one track which would be ideal for my layout.

The coaling tower is a: Ratio 547 00 Coaling Tower and can be found at most stockists in the UK. I use Hattons or Track-Shack.com but can also be found on Ebay.
i had a friend back in the 1960 that had a multy level layout with a lieonel track and a ho layout with a ho race car track mixed in. sorry i do not have any photos

K.R. In Howell. Yes in is the Blue Comet. I grew up a block from the Jersey Central tracks in Bayonne NJ. My grandfather used to take me to see the trains go by. We would stand on the bridge as the steam locomotive 🚂 would come right at us. I think that helped put the love of trains in my. Now I want to concentrate on the Jersey central line.
