Tony’s sent in pics of his HO scale race track crossing train track – looks fun!
“Hi Alastair,
The task was how to integrate my love of model railways and the grand kids desire to race their model cars around a race track.
Main board is 8โx4โ then extended across window into goods yard and made a loop back to main side.
Please see finished project which has us all happy now!
Love your posts and ideas from members!
Kind regards
Tony from Stockport”

“Hi Al
I just moved into the 21 century with this new O gauge Lionel Jersey Central Lionchief Plus steam engine.
I have been watching your many videos show the new trains and finally decided my time had come.
I must say it brought my layout to a new level and I wanted to share it with everyone. Keep up the good work.
Steve from Toms River.”

Loved Steve’s new vid – his last post is here by the way.
A huge thanks to Steve and to Tony for sharing his excellent HO scale race track crossing train track. What a layout!
I just loved the idea of a layout combined with a car race track.
Just goes to show, I never know what’s going to pop up in my inbox, and that’s probably why I enjoy doing this so much.
That’s all for today folks.
Please do keep ’em coming.
And if today is the day you get started on your layout, the Beginner’s Guide is here.
Best

PPS More HO scale train layouts here if that’s your thing.
Question Tony. I used to live in Stockport, when I saw your layout pics with the viaduct and the straight section of road race track, does it look like Wellington Road in the early morning when the grandkids race? It is a very good layout, so realistic, more realistic if an old Ford Fiesta like mine was on the race track…..
I have an question for you how does the racing track compare scale size with that of the ho scale model railway is there that much of a size difference
Pretty darn Cool
Love the Red Arrow and the Air Ambulance! ๐
I’ve sometimes thought the old railway line through Monte Carlo would make an interesting layout, with working Formula One circuit!
(Or maybe a model of the Liongotto yards at Turin with cars going round the roof of the FIAT factory!)
Always look forward to your posts Al. These were two really nice layouts on different side of the globe. Thanks for sharing, Cary B
Would like a video of the trains and cars on the move. Should be cool.
Really cool. Does the card track cross the train tracks? Nice setup.
Tony, what you did is great, not only for the little people, but the big people.Thank you. Dave from Pittsburgh USA
WOW Slot cars and trains. A winning team, thanks
Well done !
Tony, Great job! My layout HO in the early 70s had the same. Your’s is much more detail putting the two together. Thanks for sharing
Tony–just wondering which you built first: the car track or the train? Either way looks pretty cool!
I reply to some of the questions:
Yes I put the viaduct in as a symbol of Stockport and the War Memorial (Cenotaph) on the hill represents Werneth Low. (to those who know the Stockport area!)
Scale wise, the Micro Cars are technically 1-64, but do not look out of place as on a track, racing cars are smaller than conventional road traffic!
The race track does not cross the railway lines, so runs independently of the two trains I can run at the same time. All old style I’m afraid – not got into digital yet!
Tony
Great idea! Love it….
Had any accidents with the cars GOING TO FAST??
Thats just AWESOME putting the racetrack WITH the trains…….. NICE job combining them the way you did!!!!! ~Hemi
Q. Tonyโjust wondering which you built first: the car track or the train? Either way looks pretty cool!
A. I laid the railway track first as all at ground level, then put viaduct in place and set racing track in place and sculptured the hills using expanding foam and cut/shape to fit around the track.
Neat idea. Have one question. What is the make of the coal tipple as shown in the picture? I have one that was an afterthought and cannot use because of the distance required between the tracks. The one pictured only uses one track which would be ideal for my layout.
Thanks
Great job Tony, combining the cars and the rail line is something I have always wanted to do, I just could never imagine how I would get it to look right. You have done a superb job of it. Thanks for sharing! ๐

Steve from T. R…. I love the loco! Maybe the Blue Comet?
K.R. in Howell
K.R. In Howell. Yes in is the Blue Comet. I grew up a block from the Jersey Central tracks in Bayonne NJ. My grandfather used to take me to see the trains go by. We would stand on the bridge as the steam locomotive ๐ would come right at us. I think that helped put the love of trains in my. Now I want to concentrate on the Jersey central line.

Do the rails effectively prevent slot cars from leaving the track and careening into and damaging scenery and railroad models?
