Christmas model train – Dale’s

Dale’s been in touch with his Christmas model train:

“Most of my trains are from Pennsylvania, Reading and Lehigh Valley. This past year I had six main lines and one bumper car line.

I’ve been putting up layouts since I was six years old. I change it every year but always have the winter scenes.

Dale”

Now on to Boyd:

“Hello Al,

I wanted to take the opportunity to wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas, and all the best for the new year.

Also, a Merry Christmas to all the folks out there that contribute to and enjoy your daily posts.

As mentioned in my last note, I do not get much work done on the layout over the Summer months, and the Honey Do, Daddy Do and Grampie Do lists have kept me busy all fall.

Most of the projects on those lists are now complete, so I hope to get moving again on the next big section, which will include my first attempt at a water feature.

I did manage to get a couple more scenes to the point where they are good enough for now, I’ll circle back for more detailing at some point.

This is the section that leads into the quarry area, it sits above the tunnel exit shown in the next couple photos. I had originally placed some deciduous trees here, but decided it made more sense to continue the evergreens down the mountain, so out with the old and in with the new.

Thanks again for all you do to support the hobby, and hopefully I will have something to submit by Spring.

Great jobs each at opposite ends of the spectrum. Cannot say the 3-rail isn’t realistic. Looks exactly as what it should be, can you imagine this showing up 70 years ago?

Now next layout is work of art again. Is it live or Memorex> old TV magnetic type tape commercial.

  4. Robert Brady says:

Boyd’s Canadian National is so realistic i was looking for some animals in the woods.
The 3 rail at the beginning was very quaint all though I’m not a fan of 3 rail.
Merry Christmas to everyone and to all a good day

  11. Frank from HB says:

Great layout, reminds me of all the Christmas’s growing up ans setting up my trains around Christmas. The layouts were not that lavish, but gave me a chance to run my trains once a year.

  12. David W (Pittsfield MA) says:

I really enjoyed the O scale , 3 rail. Brings back memories of my childhood Lionel O gauge trains that I ran on Lionel Super O track.
Looking at the elevated loops, how do the trains do on the slightly extended areas between trestles. Seems to be too long a span?

  13. robert dale tiemann says:

    really like the entire set.

Very nice layout. Lots of detail. Surprised that the tree at the exit of the tunnel has survived long enough to have grown to the size it is. I’m sure ex thus would have been removed during routine track and trackside maintenance. Some other vegetation is also very close to the track side however having it there adds to the viewers experience of the layout. For myself the tree at the exit of the tunnel sticks out like a sore thumb.
