Inner city HO scale stations – Steve’s

Steve’s added to the collection of inner city HO scale stations on the blog:

“Al,

Oh my gosh!!! I am looking at my layout… THANK YOU!! And THANK YOU To everybody who left a post.. You guys made my month!!! Thank you for the very nice words everybody left.

I was reaching a point.. I wonder? And sure others reach a point, where you need to take a break? My layout is not model after anything in particular…Lots of it is just looking at all the wonderful layouts I see on here. I am at a point connecting the lower level, to the top level. And 3/4 of the way up… I have hit a wall, and this being my first layout I have done everything the hard way and backwards. 🙂

But thanks to Al and all of you. I have now got new life to get back out their and get to work. Thank you. Here are a few more Pic’s I take the Metro Link into.

Downtown Los Angeles to work. So from time to time I get to run into train’s like this.. Hope you enjoy? P/S My layout is DCC other then the very top track. And will post more.

Thank you again Al

Steve”

A big thanks to Steve for adding to the inner city HO scale stations on the blog. I love the way he had a theme from the start, inspired by his daily commute.

And I’m sure there are lots of you out there, nodding sagely after reading his words:

“…and this being my first layout I have done everything the hard way and backwards.”

We feel your pain, Steve. That’s exactly why I collated this together.

Keep ’em coming, folks.

Photo backdrops for model trains – Steve’s

Steve’s been in touch with some pics on photo backdrops for model trains:

“Al,

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU…….

I can not remember how I came across you, and all the wonderful people who model and take their time to post pictures.

Lets see, I started this all by dating a girl who had a young boy. It was about a month and 1/2 before Xmas. I thought to myself, when I was his age, I loved my Lionel/ Tyco train sets. So I went out and bought him a set.

Turn’s out the relationship went south, forgot about the set until I bought my house. In my backyard is a big shed, and that is where it all started years ago. I live in S Cal.

My Mother is a Brit. So I love to see all the European lay outs its just the best. You taking all of your time is THE BEST!! Thanks Again!

I really do thank you because I do get a lot of information from all the major modeler’s (DAVE) And all the rest. Just blow’s me away how great they are!

So here are a couple shot’s of my work still in progress. Its just a layout I did not try and model anything. This is my 1st layout. I am sure it will change.

I run HO and 6 Trains. I will try and post more Pic’s in the future.

Thank You again…. Al

Steve”

What I loved about Steve’s story is how he started. So many folk just ‘fall’ in to making a layout through one reason or another – and that’s fine by me.

But most of all – it’s all about just getting started.

A big thanks to Steve for sharing his photo backdrops for model trains.

Hate to bore you, but if you’re still sitting on the side lines, this will get you started, just like Steve.

Please do keep ’em coming.

Best

Al

Kato N scale unitrack – Ray’s

Ray’s been in touch with his Kato N scale unitrack layout:

“Al,

First of all, I would like to thank everyone for the many positive comments I received on my layout. They are greatly appreciated. I will attempt to answer some of the questions I have received.

The turntable is a KATO and was very easy to instal and run. It is an awesome piece. My entire track is KATO N scale unitrack. I do not have the patience or the talent to lay the older type track that I had when I was a child.

Many have asked for a track plan. To be honest, I used two different plans and modified them to fit my layout. My layout started with a 4 x 8 piece of ply wood (see initial track plan attached) and as I filled that up i just kept adding on. The second phase was a 3 x 6 extension (see large addition track plan), and I just modified them and kept adding tables and track to it as an idea came to me. I believe I have 7 more smaller additions that were added over the year and a half that I have been working on it.

The layout is run on two separate KATO transformers (two separate tracks that do not connect) and it is a DC layout. I did add a KATO sound box to add sound to the layout.

I found the laser cut station on line. I just googled Worcester Union Station model in N scale. I am not sure if they offer it in HO.

I have added pictures which display the evolution of my lay out. They are in order.

Thanks again for the interest in my layout.

Best,

Ray”

And now, more from Dangerous Dave. He’s been playing with his train cam:

“Hi Al ,not a lot happening on my layout of late, with summer arriving, busy in the garden and still struggling with the knee, but just to show still active… a run around the layout.

Regards

Dave”

A huge thank you to Dave and to Ray for sharing his Kato N scale unitrack.

What I loved about Ray’s layout narrative is it shows how you can easily expand your layout with a little thought.

So don’t be afraid of starting small. The key is to start…
