OO scale track and roadbed – David’s

David has been back in touch with an update on his OO scale track and roadbed.

He’s a man of few words this time – but the pictures speak for themselves.

And besides, for me, it’s all about making a start, which I why I post half built layouts.

“Hi Al,

Attached are some latest pics of my layout:

regards

David”

Thanks to David for sharing his OO scale track and roadbed – now on to Eric:

“My project is now starting to take shape but a long long way still to go. I am attempting to do a countryside layout this time instead of the normal town / village that I am used to doing, thought it was time to stretch the old brain a bit.

Used a lot of track all in circles that will centre round the lake that I hope to make into a camping / boating site.

Have again utilised the 1.5 turn helix in a new configuration with 2 levels of track coming off the top rather than 1.

Having to go back to plaster for most of the countryside base but have used foam on the right hand hill over the helix to enable easy access.

The plaster base over the tracks is in four removable pieces that at present are quite easily visible but will be camouflaged by the time I’m done (hopefully).

You will see the centre lake in the pictures a lot to do to it yet. But in the back left I have also added a small lake below the hill.

Hopefully this will all look like a remote moorland scene with the railway circling the lake ….. eventually.

The layout front portion are the sidings off the two main tracks, note the tracks also run at the rear of the sidings and a lot more of the track on show to my normal efforts.

I wish Alastair and all modellers everywhere all the best!

Eric (Leeds) UK”

Big thanks to David for sharing his OO scale track and roadbed and to Eric too.

Please do keep ’em coming folks: let’s share your tips, pics and videos.

And if today is the day you get started and join in on the fun, the Beginner’s Guide is here.

Stunning scenery?

I’ve been putting my feet up for the last few weeks. Just felt like it.

And while I’ve been busy doing nothing, I saw my boy’s print out scenery video has now had over 82,000 views. Here it is again if you’ve forgotten:

Anyhow, I was looking at the video because he’s just finished a load of new ones.

But rather than just put them on the site, I thought anyone who has put up with me for this long deserves some kind of thank you, so I thought of a ‘Little Kahuna’ bundle deal.

See what you think. I think they are his best yet. But I’m hugely biased!

Have a look – they are here.

4×8 HO model train layout – Joe’s

Joe’s been in touch with his 4×8 HO model train layout in his basement:

“My layout is in a small corner of my basement.

Instead of a 4×8 table, I decided to do some bench work and go around the walls.

As you can see from the photos it fit very nicely allowing me to actually go three levels.

It is all DCC with sound.

The railroad itself is just based on scenes I remember as I kid.

A train Museum in New Hampshire gave me the idea of the train and trolly park.

I painted and put decals all my engines.

The little town and train yard are just my imagination at work and I really feel that is the fun in building a railroad. Use your imagination.

All together it took me almost 6 months to complete.

I actually built it for myself but love the look of the grandchildren when they watch with eyes so wide open. You can’t buy that look anywhere.

Regards

Joe”

A wonderful layout – a big thanks to Joe for sharing his 4×8 HO model train layout.

Whenever a basement layout comes in, I always think of Harper’s: Basement train layouts.

I loved Jo’s words too. Who can resist a grandchild’s amazement and wonder?

Please do keep ’em coming. There’s quite a few 4×8 layouts on the blog now, here are a few more:
